This knife has been hand forged from 80crv2 high carbon steel, with a pattern welded plug comprised of 30 layers of steel forge welded in place. The blade has been ground to have a very fine cutting edge for clean and precise slicing of vegetables and meats and comes razor sharp and ready for use. It is balanced just forward of the heel and has a forged taper through the blade that provides an excellent sense of balance.

The handle is carved from birds eye huon pine and buffalo horn, its octagonal facets giving a nod to the Japanese styled "wa" handle. The buffalo horn came from my time as an indigenous ranger co-ordinator in Arnhem Land, shot by a young indigenous ranger on our team as food for a local ceremony. It is the piece just behind the tip, which is very dense and dark in colour, coming with some degree of my own sense of sentimentality as well.

The sheath is local silky oak, milled from a fallen tree and well seasoned. It captured the blade with just enough friction to keep the knife secure, catching it at the neck of the knife and keeping the cutting edge well protected.

The dimensions are: blade length is 180mm, 55mm high and 5mm at the neck. The overall length is 340mm

Please note that this is a high carbon steel knife, which means it must be stored completely dry or it may develop excessive patina or rust. This is most easily done by wiping down the knife with a damp cloth after using, then drying it completely before putting it away. The is the small trade off for an incredibly durable steel that stays sharp for a long time and is easily resharpened when the time comes.
