This knife is a hand forged san mai (three layers), with historic wrought iron cladding and a high carbon tool steel core (80crv2), with a thin layer of nickel in between layers. I have added a pattern welded "damascus" steel plug, which has been forge welded in place, along with decorative copper rivets along the blade.

The intended composition is something like a celestial dream-scape; a planetary orb hanging in a strange night sky, with an intended sense of movement with the copper stars. The wrought iron that was used came from an old logging wheel from the local area. As a man who would prefer to plant a tree rather than see one cut down, I take great pleasure in reworking this material into something more optimistic for the future, designed to feed and nourish rather than log and demolish.

The handle is sculpted from a stabilised mallee burl and hairy oak, cast in black epoxy rein and full of most pleasing detail, with a bolster made from bronze, cast in house from recycled materials. This provides a comfortable grip for the user, allowing for a secure connection to the heavily tapered blade.

This knife is razor sharp and performs all kitchen related tasks with enthusiasm and pleasure, slicing through root vegetables cleanly and with precision. It comes with an accompanying beefwood sheath that has been custom fitted to remain faithfully in place.

The dimensions are:  6mm width, tapering to a fine tip, blade length 170mm, 51mm high and 310mm over all

Please note that this is a high carbon steel knife, which means it must be stored completely dry or it may develop excessive patina or rust. This is most easily done by wiping down the knife with a damp cloth after using, then drying it completely before putting it away. The is the small trade off for an incredibly durable steel that stays sharp for a long time and is easily resharpened when the time comes.
