This knife is hand forged from a single layer of 80crv2 high carbon steel, with inlays of wrought iron and copper forge welded in place. The wrought iron has been taken from an old logging wagon wheel and set to reveal the end grain, making a nice moon-like orb that is accompanied with some copper stars hanging in something like a night sky.
The knife has been ground to be balanced in the hand and razor sharp, designed to cut vegetables and meats with high precision and ease.
It has been finished with a black etch, which overtime will turn grey, however the wrought iron remain largely unchanged with daily use.
The handle is made from multiple offcuts of mallee burl and hairy oak, too small to use and too tempting to throw away. Instead I have cast black epoxy resin to fill the voids and highlight the negative space that is both very stable full of glorious detail and unique character the closer you look. It is designed to provide an excellent grip for the users hand, finely polished and unique to this knife.
It is accompanied with a custom beefwood sheath, polished and designed to stay securely on the knife.
The dimensions are: 4mm thick, tapering to a fine point, 160mm blade, 51mm high and 285mm over all.
Please note that this is a high carbon steel knife, which means it must be stored completely dry or it may develop excessive patina or rust. This is most easily done by wiping down the knife with a damp cloth after using, then drying it completely before putting it away. The is the small trade off for an incredibly durable steel that stays sharp for a long time and is easily resharpened when the time comes.
